Open Source and 3D Printing

This week in Business English let’s talk about Open Source files and 3D printing

3D Printing of Homes in 24 hrs, 3D printed organs for surgery and 3D printed Pizza in Outer Space! These are some of the applications of 3D Printing and there are tons more.  Listen to Massimo Banzi who helped invent the Arduino, a tiny, easy-to-use open-source microcontroller that’s inspired thousands of people around the world to make the coolest things they can imagine — from toys to satellite gear.

If you aren’t familiar with the concept please take some time to listen to this TED Talk explaining open-source coding here.

This week we’ll talk about all the possible and actual uses for 3D Printing.

Here’s another positive application of Open-source patterns and 3D Printing…

Enable asks families to put a pin on their website map to identify where they are and what they need and then connects them with volunteers who own 3D printers in the area, they then help them create custom prosthetics for each child, the cost is under 100$ and is easy to assemble. Beautiful.
